Once a mischievous dog made his bed on some sweet hay that was stored up for the ox. The ox came in
hungry and seeing the dog on the hay said, “I am very tired and hungry. Please get aside and let me eat the hay.
It is of no use to you.” But the mischievous dog replied, “Since I myself cannot eat the hay, I will not let anyone else have it.” The hungry ox repeatedly requested the dog. But the dog paid no heed. Rather, it barked at him and would not let him eat. At last, the ox had to give up the hope of eating the hay, and went away muttering: “Ah, why do people often grudge others what they cannot enjoy themselves?”
