On a hot day, a hungry fox came out of his den in search of food. He saw a cock sitting on the branch of a tree. He said to himself that he must have it in his lunch. The fox looked up at the cock and addressing it as a dear friend asked if he had heard the good news. The cock asked what the good news was. The cunning fox said to him that all the birds and animals had decided to become friends. They were no longer enemies. So, the cock might get down and shook his hands with him (fox). The cock was very clever. He understood the fox’s evil motive and decided to make him frightened. He told him that he was very glad to hear the news. Then he said that if other animals such as dogs and so on came, he would get down and shook his hands. The fox became very frightened at the utterance of dogs. At once the fox ran away very fast. The cock laughed and said to himself, “We mustn’t believe in the sweet words of our enemies.”
