When the vibration of sound is at a tolerable and pleasant level it is called sound. But when it is sharp, harsh, and unpleasant to the ears it is called sound pollution. There are many ways by which sound is polluted. Because of the growth of urban population and increasing use of machines in industrial work the sound is being polluted in urban life the horns and whistles of different vehicles plying on the roads are causing serious sound pollution. The sounds of mills and factories also contribute to the general increase in the level of sound. The young generation now has an attraction to listen to music at a high volume. Some shops use loudspeakers to attract customers. Mikes, car horns, drums also cause sound pollution. Shouting and slogans on roads are also a kind of sound pollution. Sound pollution causes many diseases which could be avoided if there was no such sound pollution. The diseases that are caused by sound pollution are heart attack, hypertension, blood pressure, deafness, etc. People in hospitals are greatly affected by this pollution. Student cannot concentrate on their study because of harsh and unpleasant sound. This pollution can be averted to some extent by taking some effective measures. People can be made aware of the bad effect of this pollution. Mass media can play a vital role by publishing cautionary supplements in their newspapers and magazines. Lastly, mills and factories should be set up outside residential areas so that people are not exposed to such pollution. By doing these, we can reduce sound pollution to a great extent.

Sound pollution is a much-ventilated issue related to the endangered environment of the present world. It disturbs urban life much more than rural life. Sound Pollution occurs when the vibration of sound goes above 45 decibels. Many are the reasons behind sound pollution. Of all the reasons, the increasing use of machines in our daily life is the main culprit. Engines and horns of vehicles, mills, and factories, mechanical appliances like an alarm clock, refrigerators, etc. used in homes, clamor of crowds, airplanes zooming past above us, musical instruments, etc. all add bitter dimensions to sound pollution. Besides, lack of awareness is responsible to a great extent, and here indiscriminate use of loudspeakers, microphones, etc. and the drivers purposeless blowing of horns are worth mentioning. Due to sound pollution, people suffer from rudeness, lack of concentration, and hypertension. The rate of heartbeat increases. The durability of all sorts of construction is lessened by sound pollution. It also harms the aquatic ecosystem. Planned urbanization and the economical use of mechanical devices that create a sound of high frequency can go a long way in palliating sound pollution. In addition, different scientific measures for soundproofing should be taken. Above all, mass awareness is to be created. Finally, sound pollution must be prevented otherwise it will cost us a lot.
