May 1st is internationally observed as May Day. The day is observed to commemorate the historic struggle of working people. The day is observed in most of the countries of the world. The day has a historical background. The privileges that the workers enjoy today a minimum wage, safety laws, and eight-hour workday came out for the sacrifice of the workers in 1886. On May 3, 1886, police fired on a crowd of strikers of the McCormick Harvest Machine Company, Chicago, At this, at least one striker was killed five or six others were seriously wounded and an undetermined number was injured. At the beginning of the Industrial Revolution people worked very long shifts lasting up to fourteen or even more hours a day. This is why in the 1880s a movement calling for an eight-hour workday began among the workers. If the workers did not stand up and demand their rights, they would continue to be exploited. So, the day is of great importance for working people all around the world.

The first of May is known as May Day’ or ‘International Workers’ Day’ and is observed almost all over the world. The day is observed to commemorate the workers who sacrificed their lives in Chicago in May 1886, On May 3, 1886 police fired up in a gathering of strikers who demanded their rights at the McCormick Harvest Machine Company, Chicago. One striker was shot dead, sóme were fatally wounded and many were injured. The workers now enjoy a númber of facilities such as eight-hour workday, minimum wage, safety laws, and so on. But all these privileges were the outcome of the supreme sacrifices made by the workers on May 3, 1886. At the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, they had to work for fourteen or even more hours a day. Every year the day is ‘observed with great solemnity. People wear black badges, attend seminars and processions, reflect on the sacrifices made by the workers, and vow anew to stand against all oppression and injustice against workers. Finally, the day is a source of inspiration for the workers and teaches unity and solidarity to them
